It isn’t easy to identify when you need to take a break. My hope is that this tarot spread will help you with self-reflection in an area where you’re considering taking a temporary or long-term hiatus from something in your life.

This tarot spread can help you identify when you need to take a step back from a relationship, a job or career, school, running a household, supporting others, and general burnout.

The following signs can be an indicator that it may be time for a break:

  • Restlessness - feeling unable to relax. When you do take time for yourself, your mind can’t stop racing or you have a hard time sitting still.

  • Hard Time Concentrating - tasks you used to enjoy (or be able to tolerate) suddenly seem more challenging or less interesting to you.

  • Trouble Sleeping - waking up in the middle of the night, not being able to fall asleep.

  • Feeling Drained/Tired - you may notice yourself feeling more tired in the afternoons than normal, have a harder time waking up in the morning, needing more naps.

  • Changes in Eating Habits - under eating or overeating, skipping meals, strange cravings, wanting food when you aren’t hungry.

  • Getting Sick - frequent illness can be signs of an overwhelming amount of stress that’s preventing your immune system from keeping you healthy.

  • Feeling Irritable - snapping at people, feeling impatient with others, feeling more negative or cynical than normal, overall more tense or frustrated.

  • Loss of Interest - no real motivation or drive to do things you once enjoyed, may feel withdrawn from social interactions, feeling isolated.

Many of these symptoms of burnout overlap with symptoms of depression and other mental & physical health concerns, so it’s always good to check in with trained professional (therapist or doctor) if you have any concerns or notice prolonged symptoms.
