Where does Charoite come from?
Charoite is only found in the Far East of Russia in the Sakha Republic. Due to charoite being only found in this one area of Russia, it adds to why this stone is considered quite rare and coveted. Sakha Republic has limited the mining of charoite to 100 tons per year, making so that this beautiful stone will be able to be mined for an extended period of time without having it run out.
Charoite is believed to be named after the Russian word chary, meaning magic or charms.
Charoite Physical Properties
Charoite is a monoclinic stone. It is considered a soft stone on Mohs hardness scale with a hardness of 5 to 6.
The vivid purple in the stone is typically due to due to trace manganese within the stone. The white found in the stone is typically due to traces of quartz. The black spots on some Charoite stones are Aegirine (Aegirine itself is a beautiful crystal with many metaphysical qualities!).
What are the metaphysical properties of Charoite?
- positive transformation
- clear thinking
- helping you stay present
- enjoying the moment
- uplifting energy
- mind, body, spirit connection
- helps to deepen thoughts
- a good stone for reflection (of self, love, and otherwise)
Where should I put Charoite?
Due to its insightful nature, Charoite is a great stone to keep in a place where you want to go inward to feel pensive.
It can be a bit exhausting to keep under a pillow or too close to your bed (although this is just a suggestion, if you feel called to keep it close to your bed, by all means try it out!).
I would recommend it be kept somewhere you’d like to use your mind, connect with spirit and uplift your energy. A living room, family room, office, or anywhere else you feel called.
