Mother's Day | Female Energy
Today is regarded as Mother's Day; a popular holiday where we give thanks and appreciate the women who raised us and who raise our children.I've never been one for Hallmark holidays; I often find the forced nature of the events very disingenuous and insincere. This year I feel differently.I have spent this weekend in deep reflection on how truly grateful I am to by graced by so many incredible mothers. For the past few years there has been an abundant stream of women entering my life who have inspired me and who have really shown me so much about the true essence of womanhood. As a child I was always fascinated with the family dynamic. I loved being invited to my friends homes and playing witness to the way each family member interacted with one another and with their guests. I took all of these experiences with me; mentally noting the behaviours I admired. Now that I've gotten older I find myself taking pieces of each woman I have respected and incorporating that in my own personality. It's incredible how many women have come into my life to show me what it means to be not only a great Mother, role model, or teacher... but what it means to be a woman.I have had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with various women who are now at the point in their lives where their children have grown into young adults and they are now essentially allowed (by society's standards) to start spending more time focusing on themselves. This is interesting for me to witness.Being someone who is so keen on self-improvement and spiritual growth it seems a shame that so many strong women have to put their interests and passions on hold for a huge portion of their lives so that they can raise children. Devoting their lives to caring for others; nurturing us with that feminine charm that cannot be duplicated.I've met countless talented, intelligent, and creative women who consciously choose to put their pursuits on hold because they want to dedicate everything they can to supporting their families. It's a sacrifice that seems to be expected of women; the social pressure to leave their dreams behind because they aren't individually as important as their partners or their children. It's evident to me that there is such a stigma against women who take time for themselves. In our sexist society women are oppressed, objectified, marginalized, stereotyped and shamed. This is what makes it so magnificent to see so many strong women rise above and beyond the constraints that are placed on them.I humbly respect and admire those who have shown me what it means to hold this feminine energy. I have countless women to thank for helping me become the young woman I am; who have shown me how to follow my own true will.I have witnessed the strength behind love and compassion, understood the importance of being a crucial factor in the cycle of creation, and seen the need for the counter-balancing influence of female power (yin/yang).I thank so many women for gracing this planet with their love and nurturing energy; I celebrate and recognize the importance of these divine beings.Happy Mother's Day - today and every day.
Many of our troubles in the world today arise from an over-emphasis of the masculine, and a neglect of the feminine. This modern world is an aggressive, hyperactive, competitive, masculine world, and it needs the woman's touch as never before.- Eva Burrows
