Unlearning a Behavior Tarot Spread
With a little bit of self-awareness and a dash of honesty, we can all admit there is at least one behavior that we could stand to unlearn (but if we’re being totally honest, I’m sure we can all agree we have numerous!).
Some examples of behaviors you may want to unlearn to help improve the quality of your life:
ignoring your intuition
feeling guilty when doing fun activities (fear of not doing enough)
people-pleasing
workaholic
self-doubt
negative self-talk
avoiding challenges or new experiences in fear of failure
setting unrealistically high standards for yourself
procrastination
overthinking situations or outcomes
measuring your worth or success against others
shielding yourself from emotional openness or intimacy
dwelling on past mistakes, regrets, or losses
trying to micromanage situations, outcomes, or people
One of the best ways we can work to unlearn these behaviors is by doing their opposite or actively doing what we’re scared or avoidant of. And while engaging in those new behaviors, we may notice this judgment creeping in from the past, telling us we’re doing something wrong. It’s important to allow those thoughts to come in, to acknowledge them, and then to tell them they are no longer needed. It may take a few tries but after having that inner dialogue a few times the past behavior we’re trying to unlearn will slowly start to quiet down and fade away.
