Working With a Deity Tarot Spread
While this spread may not be for everyone, I know a lot of you are interested in witchcraft, magick, spirituality, and mysticism… so while I created this spread for my own personal practice, I decided to share it with you as well.
When I experienced what I call my 2nd spiritual awakening back in 2016, I noticed signs of Thoth everywhere in the world around me. I was introduced to the Thoth tarot deck months prior (and if you’ve been following me for a long time, you may know I refused to read with RWS for an extended period of time because I was so dedicated to Thoth). Once I began working with the Thoth deck I started seeing the Egyptian god Thoth (pictured in the tarot spread) everywhere. After many strange coincidences with this god... I began to write. And thus began Emerald Lotus Divination! The color Emerald in the name was chosen due to the Emerald Tablet - an ancient book believed to be written by Thoth. (There’s a second reason why Emerald was chosen but that’s a story for another day!)
What is a deity?
Simply put, it’s a a god or goddess, or someone with a divine status.
Why work with one?
Working with a deity, is similar to working with any higher being or higher energy. They are able to help you with life lessons, ritual/spell potency, magick in general, and helping you along on your soul’s journey. They can be great at providing comfort and inspiration.
Deities are not necessary to work with at any point on your spiritual path, but you may feel drawn to at different points in your journey.
Working with a deity requires a great amount of care and dedication. As with building any relationship, it’s important to show respect and put time and effort into researching them. Understanding why you’re drawn to work with them is important.
If you’re a beginner witch, researching popular deities or deities of a particular group can be a great starting point for this type of work.
