Healing My Mother Wound Tarot Spread
This tarot spread will help you identify your mother wound and what you can do to heal. Thank you to my awesome Instagram followers for suggesting this type of tarot spread!
What is a Mother Wound? “The mother wound can be defined as your mother not being emotionally attuned and available to you as a child”. This learned behavior can be passed down in subtle and subconscious ways.
We then carry this wound into adulthood and it can cause problems in our relationships. This wound can also cause mental health issues like anxiety or depression, and even substance abuse. The mother wound is typically intergenerational - passing from one mother, to her child, to their child, etc.
Some wounds are easier to point out, caused by mothers who were neglectful or abusive. But there can also be mother wounds from mothers who tried their best to give their children what they needed but it just didn’t match up. This could be caused by the mother being emotionally distant or absent-minded. Although the mother was present she was always somewhere else and not tuned-in to the needs of the child.
“Adults dealing with a mother wound often look back on their childhood and can identify issues such as:
↠ Never feeling they had their mother's approval or acceptance
↠ Concerns about not being loved by their mother or not being loved as much as other siblings or family members
↠ Difficulties in relating to the mother on an emotional level
↠ Uncertainty about the relationship with the mother and if it could be lost with a mistake or an accident
↠ Always trying to do better or to be perfect, to attempt to gain your mother's attention and acceptance
↠ Feelings of having to protect, care for, or shelter your mother rather than her protecting, caring for and sheltering you”This quote was taken directly from this great article from Psychology Today.
